Flying in ground effect! This video explains ground effect and wingtip vortices. This is private Pilot ground lesson 14 in our free private Pilot ground course. This video explains ground effect by first explaining wingtip vortices and what causes them. We discuss wingtip vortices and how they are related to angle of attack and airspeed. We also explain how they cause wake turbulence and how we should avoid wake turbulence as pilots. We then dive into ground effect and how it is caused by wingtip vortices being disrupted as we get close to the ground. This information will help you study for the private Pilot written exam and the oral exam for your check ride. This training is intended to follow the aeronautical knowledge areas in Part 61.105 section b for single engine aircraft.
