Описание к видео Regulation of Respiration | Nervous Mechanism

This video on respiratory physiology focuses on the Regulation of Respiration.

Now, that we have gone through the respiratory tract, mechanism of breathing, gaseous exchange, and transport of respiratory gases in detail, you can understand better how this process is regulated.

▬ 📌 Regulation of Respiration
Respiration varies in different physiological conditions. Like during exercise, or stress, we breathe much faster, and more forcefully. But then gets back to normal in a while. That’s because of some regulatory process going on in our body.

The quiet regular breathing occurs, because of two regulatory mechanisms:

👉 The nervous, or Neural Mechanism
includes Respiratory centers, Afferent nerves, And Efferent nerves.

👉 Chemical Mechanism
Includes central chemoreceptors, and peripheral chemoreceptors.

▬ 📌 Respiratory Centers
Respiratory Centers are a group of neurons, which control the rate, rhythm, and force of respiration. These centers are situated in the brainstem. Based on location, they are classified as:

👉 Medullary centers
include the Dorsal respiratory group of neurons (DRG), and the Ventral respiratory group of neurons (VRG).

👉 Pontine centers
include the Apneustic Center and the Pneumotaxic Center.

You can learn about them in detail in the video.

▬ 📌 Factors Affecting Respiratory Centers
Various types of lung receptors provide feedback from the lungs to the respiratory center. The Respiratory centers receive impulses. And regulate the respiratory movements. These include:
🔵 Impulses from Higher Centers
🔵 Impulses from Stretch Receptors
🔵 Impulses from ‘J’ Receptors
🔵 Impulses from Irritant Receptors
🔵 Impulses from Baroreceptors
🔵 Impulses from Chemoreceptors
🔵 Impulses from Proprioceptors
🔵 Impulses from Thermoreceptors
🔵 Impulses from Pain Receptors

▬ 📌 Central Chemoreceptors
These are the chemoreceptors, present in the brain. They are situated, in the deeper part of the medulla oblongata. close to the dorsal respiratory group of neurons. These are sensitive to the pH of the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). So, a decrease in the pH of the CSF causes an increase in breathing rate or hyperventilation.

▬ 📌 Peripheral Chemoreceptors
These are the ones, that are present in the carotid, and aortic regions.

👉 Carotid Body Chemoreceptors located at bifurcation of common carotid arteries.

👉 Aortic Body Chemoreceptors are present between the arch of the aorta and the pulmonary artery.

I am not going to reveal the whole story here. So, you can learn about them in detail in the video.
