James Byron Dean was born in Marion, IN on February 8th, 1931. He grew up in Indiana and moved to California at age 6. At nine, his mother died from cancer and Jimmy was sent to Fairmount, Indiana to be raised by his loving Aunt and Uncle Winslow.

After high school, Jimmy attended UCLA and Santa Monica City College but dreamed of being an actor. He left for NYC and the rest is history.

Audio from 1:37 is from Jimmy interviewing and secretly recording his grandfather in 1955, so that's why he has the more natural accent in that clip. The laugh at 2:29 is also from that same conversation.
