Ex-NKF dialysis patient, Mr JJ Tan, was struggling with the effects of dialysis after he was diagnosed with kidney failure. Upon witnessing his plight, JJ’s brother, who shares a close relationship with his beloved brother, decided to give up one of his kidneys, much to the reluctance of JJ. Eventually, the thought of providing his wife with a stable future spurred JJ to accept and undergo the live donor kidney transplant. Today, the two brothers live life with zest, pursuing their interests in life with the ones they love the most.

1 November marks the anniversary of NKF’s Kidney Live Donor Support Fund, which can help financially-challenged families with living donor transplant costs. Potential donors can apply for the Fund through NKF, or enquire through the hospital’s medical social workers.
