A grand 25-foot golden statue of Our Lady stands at the edge of the Catoctin Mountains and overlooks Mount St. Mary’s University and the valley below.
The Blessed Mother stands above a 95-foot tall bell tower and is visible from afar. It marks the spot where Father John DuBois founded the original church in 1807.
In 2021 the statue of the Blessed Mother was removed to be regilded in gold and the corroded interior structural steel supports were significantly refurbished. Again, the regional landmark has returned and can be seen from US Route 15 with College Mountain as her backdrop.
