Drone Footage of Roque Nublo - Gran Canaria's Giant Volcanic Rock

Описание к видео Drone Footage of Roque Nublo - Gran Canaria's Giant Volcanic Rock

A short compilation of some drone footage I took during an amazing hike with The Regreening Gran Canaria group up to the natural volcanic cathedral-like structure of Roque Nublo in Gran Canaria. This natural wonder is one of many lava-created towers in the region, made from the welling up of magma from the earth's surface across timespans of millions of years, during which they are shaped by the natural forces of erosion at the surface including wind, rain and even glaciation during certain periods of Earth's history.

The tower itself is 67 meters tall and lies 1800 meters above sea level. It is positioned on what was once a river of lava that flowed about 4.5 million years ago during a volcanic eruption that connected the rock to some of the other structures in the area giving it an almost mystical experience in approaching it as if it was a pathway to an altar for a giant god. Indeed, to the indigenous Canary Islanders, these landmarks held sacred significance, being sen as sentinels of protection and of spiritual gateway to the heavens and today people travel from across the world to walk towards the paths to observe and admire this great landmark.
