In case you can't tell, I've been reliving my youth by periodically covering songs by some of my favorite extreme metal bands from the mid/late 2000's 😂😂😂. So in that spirit, here's a cover that I ALWAYS wanted to do - "Unfurling A Darkened Gospel" from 'Ruination' (2009), by Job For A Cowboy.
Always loved Jon Rice's playing on this album. Super tasty ideas (especially for Extreme Metal stuff!). Not to mention - the overall drum production RULES. It's modern, while still retaining an organic feel & sound. Definitely one of my favorite albums that Jason Suecof produced. So big shoutout to both of them for being SICK.
Lol, one time I was in the UK doing some Good Tiger shows & I saw a dude on the street that looked like Jon Rice. Turns out it was, so I invited him to come to our show that night (which he did). That's pretty much the whole story, but I always thought it was funny 😂. Small world!
Additional big shoutout to the ultimate homie from my Patreon who was able to provide me with album stems for a proper mix! As I've mentioned in the past, I pretty much never do covers unless I have mix stems. So if it weren't for him, this video wouldn't exist! You rule DOODE! & just to be safe, I did also text Jonny Davy to make sure it was cool if I used em' / did a cover. LOL. Feels weird to use album mix stems without asking. So thanks to him, TOO !!! Buncha sick fuggin' guys up in here.
& speaking of SICK guys / mixes, shoutout to Declan White for the mix here! Declan's been mixing all of my recent videos, & it RULES! Especially love his work on this one - there's a LOT of natural kick mic blended in with the sample from my 2Box, & you can actually hear dynamics throughout. Love that kinda thing for this style of drumming. Aside from the kick (which is a blend), everything else is natural / un-sampled (just heavily processed, obviously)!
At any rate, if you're looking for some QUALITY mix work, contact Declan via his website (!) -

As always when using a boutique snare, outta respect to Tama I just gotta add this disclaimer: I do not officially endorse Cusworth - I am very much a PROUD #Tama Artist! I'm just also a nerd that loves trying stuff & has an addiction to purchasing snare drums 😂.
