Kanwariyas relieve their fatigue in Godiyari river

After collecting water from Uttarvahini Ganga from Sultanganj, Kanwariyas cover a distance of more than 100 kms and reach Babadham Deoghar. Some Kanwariyas complete this long journey in one or two days and some in more than that. After covering a distance of about 85 kms, they reach Godiyari river flowing in Banka district. After reaching Godiyari river, Kanwariyas do not forget to relieve their fatigue. Today, the face of this river has changed.

Earlier Godiyari river

There was a time when there was no bridge on Godiyari river. Kanwariyas had to cross the river by getting into the water. The amount of sand in the river was very high. When Kanwariyas reached here after covering a distance of 80 to 85 kms, they did not miss to rest by sitting on the river bank and in less water.

People from nearby villages cook corn here and the pilgrims enjoy eating these corns. Villagers also get a chance to earn a few rupees from this. Many photographers are also seen roaming around here, due to which there is a competition to get photos clicked.

Kanwariyas have fun in the sand too
Now there is sand instead of water in the river but the local people have arranged for piped water facility for the Kanwariyas to enjoy. Shops are set up on the sand itself. Kanwariyas stop here to eat and drink and also get photoshoots done. In a way, the Kanwariyas passing through the Godiyari river are also the hopes of the local people here.

Let us tell you that on this side of Godiyari River, Inaravaran comes first as a stop. While Pataniya comes three kilometers after crossing Godiyari River. The distance of Babadham from here is about 14 to 15 kilometers.
