The Universe, the Earth and Uranus

In this talk Edoardo Carlesi will share his experience in the world of astrophysics, machine learning and music. He will discuss how high performance computing can help us understand the universe with cosmological simulations and how machine learning and AI can help us make sense of these simulations. Then Carlesi will talk about Earth Observations, that is, what happens when you point satellite-born telescopes in the "wrong" direction to observe our planet and how they help us monitor and prevent natural disasters. In the end comes Uranus - the title of a song Carlesi wrote with his band Nanowar Of Steel which has been his second full-time job while working as a researcher and a data scientist.

About the speaker:
Born in Pisa, Italy, in 1983, Edoardo Carlesi graduated in Theoretical Physics and spent 11 years in academia working in Madrid, Sydney, Jerusalem and Potsdam. He moved back to Rome in 2021 to start his career as a Machine Learning Specialist at Top Network S.p.A. Since 2003, he is also the bass player and manager of the Italian comedy metal band Nanowar of Steel, with which he performed more than 400 shows worldwide, recording 5 albums selling tens of thousands of albums and counting millions of streams. Carlesi is very passionate about foreign languages and can express himself in 11 languages at least at a conversational level.
