US Federal Trade Commission asks court to block Microsoft's Activision Blizzard deal

The US Federal Trade Commission has asked a court to temporarily block Microsoft's proposed purchase of Activision Blizzard, ahead of the deal's expected closure on Friday. Activision Blizzard is behind big-name game titles like Call of Duty and the recent Diablo IV. The $69-billion deal would be the biggest buyout in video game history, but market leaders like Sony want it to be blocked. The FTC is arguing that Microsoft could lower game quality or player experience on rival consoles -- like Nintendo's Switch or Sony's PlayStation 5 -- or manipulate pricing or access to Activision content.
