In 1861 Gabriel Read had seen gold shining like the stars of the night sky in a river which is now Gabriels Gully. 10s of thousands of people descended on the valley to stake their claim. Its said that the valley was raised about 50m due to all the tailings, and whole hillsides were dug up.

At the end of our stay in the South Island, we had about 45 min to kill before we had to be at the airport and I was able to get a quick explore of the area.

There are so many South Island spots I want to get to. Just a quick video this time around.
