Welcome to Episode 146 of Norse, Myths, Legends, and Folktales. My name is MyLinda Butterworth, and today, we hear about the nature of the brothers True and Untrue. How Untrue swindles his brother and who later finds much luck in “True and Untrue.”

There once was a poor woman with two sons, True and Untrue. True was kind and good towards all. Untrue, on the other hand, was bad and full of lies. When both boys had grown up, their mother sent them out into the world with a little scrip and some food. After walking for some time, the boys decided to stop and eat as it was getting dark. Untrue suggested that they eat the food from True's scrip first, and then when it was gone, they would eat out of his. You can determine what happened when True wanted to eat from Untrue's scrip. Untrue told him he was a fool for thinking he would share and blinded his brother to avoid sharing with him and get the upper hand. True climbed up into a large oak to keep himself safe for the evening, only to be privileged to hear many secrets and gossip from the woodland creatures, which he found helpful, especially the one about restoring his sight.

The next day, True went to the castle and became truly helpful with all the things he had learned and even earned the king's gratitude by being able to marry the princess. Untrue showed up as a beggar on his brother's wedding day. What happened next? Listen in to hear the whole story.
