Roper Rhodes shower valve front plate removal for Event mixer valve

Описание к видео Roper Rhodes shower valve front plate removal for Event mixer valve

Hi this video relates to removing the front plate of a Roper Rhodes EVENT thermostatically controlled shower valve. I can find videos of how to replace the valve in shower controls but nothing that helps in how to get the front plate off. I thought that the front plate would have been held in place by the two large rings around the knobs, these rings can be turned but no matter how much you try to undo them they don’t release the plate. It turns out that the front plate is only held in place by silicon sealer and the guy that fitted our face plate didn’t want it to come off in a hurry and used far too much sealant.
I bet a lot of folk crack the tiles buy using screwdrivers or chisels to get the plate off.
You can unscrew the two chrome control levers with grips; I put a load of insulation tape around the jaws of the grips so as not to mark the chrome. Once the leavers are removed you’ll see that the grub screws and be removed with a 2.5 mm allen key and then you can take the plate off but the big rings around the knobs are purely decorative! Before being able to get the paint scrapers under the plate I used a scalpel but I broke the first blade, I cannot over stress just how hard I was having to push the scrappers in to cut the silicon.
I guess that other types of valve may be different but when I realised that the large chrome rings weren’t doing anything, or at least weren’t unscrewing and the front plate wouldn’t budge I thought there must be some other sort of gravity that I don’t know about.
As I say there are videos on YouTube that show how to replace the inner valves and how to use the isolator valves under the plate to stop the water so that you can service the unit but there was nothing about what the heck is holding the blessed plate in place.
I was going to make a full real time video of this but my Adobe video software keeps on crashing so I haven’t been able to join up clips.
Anyway if this video helps only one person I'll be happy, let me know if it does.
Kind Regards . . . Andy
