Скачать или смотреть SemaVis: Explorative Statistic Data Visualization (EuroStat) for Policy Modeling

The work with Open Government Data is challenging since the raw provided data are hard to interpret without visualizations. Existing solutions use therefore a number of preselected indicators that they are going to visualize. Usually these indicators are representing data on country level. Unfortunately, the most data users are interested are local data about their local environment, e.g. there city. If users like to graphically see the data for their city, they have to search for the data in the e.g. EuroStat database and later on they have to copy the data to Excel to draw charts. This is a less productive process and does not support the idea of involving citizens to be interested in the political process and be engaged in it.

In fact, we have developed a visualization solution that allows to elaborate almost all indicators from EuroStat, country data as well local data, e.g. about the user’s state, province or city. Even more the user is able to select the dimensions he is interested, e.g. the female population between 30 and 40 years. The developed demonstrator is highly explorative and allows in a very interactive form the elaboration of the EuroStat’s Open Government Data. This implementation as explorative Open Government Data system is unique in its provided form of easy use and interacting with the indicator data. And the best: is available for all interested citizens.

This work is based on the SemaVis technology (http://www.semavis.com) developed in the FUPOL project. SemaVis provides a comprehensive and modular approach for visualizing heterogeneous data for various users.
