How To Avoid Common Notary Certificate Mistakes

Описание к видео How To Avoid Common Notary Certificate Mistakes

Mistakes can happen — but for a Notary even a minor error can lead to major headaches, including a document being rejected. The good news is that most common errors can be easily avoided. For more information, visit the Notary Bulletin at http://bit.ly/CertificateMistakes.

In this video, you’ll learn the root causes of the most common notarization errors and three tips to avoid them from happening in the first place.

Avoiding Notary Certificate Mistakes

00:27 - Mistake #1: Not reading the Notary certificate carefully. Not taking the time to read the certificate carefully will result in you not understanding what is required and then filling out the certificate incorrectly.
00:51 - Mistake #2: Not entering the correct signing location. You must record where the signing took place. If the form has a pre-printed location that is incorrect, cross it out and fill in the correct location.
01:20 - Mistake #3: Not printing or signing your name exactly as it appears on your commission. You must sign or print your name as it appears on your official commissioning documents. Do not add or omit elements to your name so it no longer matches your commission.
01:40 - Mistake #4: Incorrectly dating a Notary certificate. Entering the wrong date or post-dating a document is a serious error. Make sure you have checked the date you are signing the document with an accurate calendar—such as one on your phone or computer.
01:55 - Mistake #5: Improper placement of your Notary seal or stamp. Upside down, blurred, or partial impressions will likely result in the document being rejected.
02:22 - Mistake #6: Stamping over wording or signatures. Doing this will make them illegible.

Tips to Avoid Notary Errors

• Tip #1: Know your state requirements. Notary laws vary from state to state—keep up on your local Notary requirements and laws.
• Tip #2: Don’t rush. Take your time and double check your work.
• Tip #3: Be prepared. Make sure all of your Notary tools are current, particularly your seal.
