B-17F Eighth Air Force Color Outtakes from Memphis Belle

Описание к видео B-17F Eighth Air Force Color Outtakes from Memphis Belle

We keep finding evocative color film footage of 1943 Eighth Air Force B-17F operations in England. It's the massive B-Roll raw material used to edit into the wartime documentary film, Memphis Belle.
Filmmakers on duty in England for the documentary, as well as crewmembers who were given 16-millimeter cameras to help with the project, preserved the look and feel of the time in Kodachrome color.
Saved in reels and reels of archival film holdings, the scenes we see are sometimes repeats of takes for the film, and sometimes the hectic stream-of-consciousness of the day. A number of different B-17s and crews are seen, and some of this footage did not make it into the final documentary. That makes it even more special to watch now. Watch for a panoramic inflight view from a swiveling ball turret, and check the bomb trucks heading out to the B-17 parking area. So many details to observe.
