In my 1st GCash GInvest video several weeks ago, I shared with you my excitement that we Filipinos can now invest in US stocks via index funds for as low as P1,000. Similar investment products have been offered by banks by investing in feeder funds mirroring the S&P 500, the Wells Fargo Worldwide Fund, or Vanguard ETFs. But banks required quite a hefty sum, requiring at least $1,000 and of course, the hurdle of having to exchange your pesos for USD. Globe and GCash have made this investment breakthrough by lowering the minimum investment needed so that investing is now within reach by practically anyone with a Globe Telecom sim card and P1,000. But, as shared in that 1st video, my excitement was dampened when I had multiple failed attempts to make my GCash Investment. I ran into several roadblocks in verifying my account, a miscategorization and restriction of my account, and the said index funds being outright unavailable. Through some persistence and a whole 2-months, I am glad to tell you that I've finally been able to invest via GCash GInvest. The silver lining in this entire process was the discovery of ATRAM and Seedbox Philippines. As I struggled to make my GCash investment, my research led me to discovering the fund management company, ATRAM, through which Globe and GCash were coursing their investments. I also discovered ATRAM's technology service provider: Seedbox Philippines. I had discovered that investing via GCash is actually optional and it's possible to get into these ATRAM UITF's through the Seedbox website. Here I'll be sharing the step by step investment process on how I've invested in the ATRAM Global Technology Feeder Fund and the ATRAM Global Consumer Trends Fund through both GCash and Seedbox. Which is better? Let's find out!
Despite the major hurdles I previously encountered with GCash, the actual investment process to get into GInvest was now a breeze. This literally took seconds of my time! I wish I hadn't encountered the problems previously so that I could have bought into the said index funds when they were trading lower a few months back. LOL! There were 2 ATRAM UITF's that I invested in:
#1 - ATRAM Global Technology Feeder Fund targeting the MSCI AC World Information Technology Index (Morgan Stanley Corp All Country) via Fidelity Funds
Apple, Alphabet (parent company of Google), Visa, and Intel
#2 ATRAM Global Consumer Trends Fund targeting the MSCI World Consumer Net Index via Invesco Globalco Consumer Trends Fund
Amazon, Alibaba, Caesars Entertainment, Nintendo, and SEA Limited (Shopee, Garena)
Since I've wanted this investment review of the ATRAM UITF's to be a thorough comparison, I invested in the same two funds via Seedbox Philippines as well with roughly the same investment capital. Upon exploring, my biggest discovery is the number of investment funds that ATRAM has available. While GCash only offers 5, there are more than 12 funds available for investment via the Seedbox website! Here I invested in 1 additional global equity fund not available via GCash:
#3 ATRAM Global Financials Feeder Fund targeting the MSCI AC World Financials Index via the BlackRock World Financials Fund
AXA, Prudential, Morgan Stanley, and Goldman Sachs
For the ATRAM Global Financials Feeder Fund, the minimum investment requirement is also at P1,000. I thought that investing in this fund is a good diversification to my portfolio. While the technology fund is sexy and tracking the darlings of Silicon Valley while the consumer trends fund tracks the world's most best consumer companies, focusing on financial institutions would seem less exciting. But their stability is exactly what's attracted me to them.
