The purchase or sale of a home is a big commitment! But what do your legal fees go towards anyways?

Well, there are three types of fees:

Fee #1: Disbursements
Disbursements are variable costs paid by your law firm on your behalf. They vary, depending on your individual situation, and most often include: registration fees, strata forms, tax certificates, insurance binders, title searches, courier fees, and faxes and photocopies.

Fee #2: Closing Costs
Closing costs are fees paid when property is officially transferred from seller to buyer. As with disbursements, closing costs also vary depending on your individual situation, but usually include: strata fee adjustments, strata move in and out fees, property transfer taxes, property tax adjustments, title insurance,
and any additional documents required by the bank. Again, Winright Law keeps no portion of your closing costs- they are paid directly to third parties.

Fee #3: Legal Fees
Because closing costs and disbursements will remain the same regardless of which law firm you go to, make sure to ask only for the cost of a lawyer's legal fees. This is the cost that will really make the difference in the end.
