My film, "L.S. Lowry" (1975), was one of the first independent films ever sold to the BBC. As a young filmmaker, who grew up in the Industrial North surrounded by Coal Mines and Cotton Mills, I was drawn to the way L.S. Lowry depicted the Northern landscape, its people and their livelihoods. Again, I created this documentary on a very small budget. Sadly, while trying to interview the artist about his work for the film, all Lowry wanted to talk about was Football! He refused to say much at all about his Art, "Either you like art or you don't!
