Akai AX60 | The best and worst synthesizer Akai ever did

Описание к видео Akai AX60 | The best and worst synthesizer Akai ever did

The Akai AX60 from 1985. A one-vco-oscillator per voice, with the ability to patch in voices from their line of first samplers as a "VCO 2". Very unique.

The first Akai synthesizers, The AX80 and the AX60 were the only black synths they ever did in the 80s and 90s. First out was the AX80, and a year later, the AX60 with lots of features. Jam packed actually.

The AX60 I use in this video has been given the Tauntek upgrade, check that out here:

This brings a lot of cool features to the AX60, among them the ability to load and save patches as Sysex, something the original version can't.
The AX60 here also has had the stock faders swapped out for LED faders.

Even though the AX60 has all the bells and whistles, a cool arpeggio, an awesome split mode and the unison (for both the incoming samples and internal sounds) I find it too cold and distant in the sound for my liking. Much as the AX80 before it. It's just bland in its sound. I WANT to like it, and I do love a lot of the features, but ultimately the sound isn't as useable (again, to me) as many of its competitors. At the time.
Over the next couple of years, the AX60 turned into the grey/white AX73 and the module VX90, but in the process many features was lost. The "Sampler In" remained though.

Check it out before buying. Maybe you'll love it, maybe you won't . ;-)

Growing up I listened to so much synth-pop and it's only natural that my own music takes inspiration from many of the acts I loved back then. I still love them and listen to them!

Howard Jones, Depeche Mode, Pet Shop Boys, New Order, Erasure, Thompson Twins, Tears for Fears, The Human League, Propaganda. FGTH, Ultravox, OMD, Eurythmics, Duran Duran, Giorgio Moroder, Jean Michel Jarre, Jan Hammer, Alphaville, A-ha as well as loads of artists doing what is now called Italo Disco. And many more great acts like Nik Kershaw, Spandau Ballet, Wham, Dire Straits ++
