This story narrates the origin of Mruthyu Devatha (Goddess of Death) and her sorrow upon receiving her divine duty.
When Lord Brahma assigned her the task of taking lives, she was devastated and wept, unwilling to cause destruction. To escape this fate, she performed intense penance at Dhenukashramam. Moved by her devotion, Brahma assured her that she wouldn’t bear the burden of sin. Instead, human vices like deceit, jealousy, greed, and anger would lead to their end. Additionally, her tears transformed into diseases, becoming another cause of death. To assist her, Yama was appointed as the guardian of death. Thus, mortality became an inevitable part of life.
