A major east-west road in Toronto finally gets bike lanes that have taken years to plan, and only the pandemic can only accelerate to fruition. The Bloor-Danforth is a major east-west arterial road connecting all points of Toronto from Etobicoke to Scarborough, bisecting the city with distinct, lively neighbourhoods and carrying a rapid transit line that keeps Toronto moving. With the reduction in motor vehicle traffic due to the Coronavirus pandemic, coupled with the increase in outdoor exercise, active transportation, and protocols for the safe reopening of businesses along the corridor impacted by the pandemic, there clearly is a need for progressive planning and forward-thinking ideas on how to reconfigure the cities we live in. We are beyond the automobile and bringing the streets back to the people.
