Pakistan’s FIA has intensified its crackdown on human smugglers, arresting 215 suspects in the Lahore Zone within seven months. Smugglers were deceiving citizens with promises of jobs abroad and using new illegal air and land routes to reach Europe via the Middle East and North Africa.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has launched an aggressive operation against human smugglers, arresting 215 traffickers in the Lahore Zone over the past seven months.

According to officials, the traffickers lured innocent citizens with false promises of better jobs abroad and smuggled them through new illegal routes after older paths were restricted by tightened border controls.

Previously, human traffickers facilitated “dunki” (illegal migration) through Iran, Turkey, and Greece, but these routes have become nearly inaccessible due to stricter surveillance.

Sources revealed that smugglers now first send migrants by air to Gulf countries, from where they move to Egypt or Libya before attempting to enter Europe illegally.

The FIA Anti-Human Trafficking Cell confirmed that smuggling networks now operate primarily through two new methods, including the misuse of air travel routes. Several passengers using these illegal pathways have been offloaded at airports during ongoing investigations.
