On this live episode of In The Mix With Twixt, I went live with Fatha Flex for a real time conversation unpacking faith, masculinity, celebrity mess, queer politics, and power dynamics in Black culture.

We start with the conversation around Dr. Karri Turner Bryant, wife of Jamal Bryant, and the discourse surrounding her lace dress worn to the Atlanta Mayor’s Ball. We talk about respectability politics, why Black women in the church are policed so harshly, and how modesty conversations often become distractions from larger issues of control and optics.

Next, we pivot into a completely separate topic involving LaLa Milan and her referring to the father of her child, Tyler P, as her “baby mama.” I explain why moments like this feel hurtful confirmed and personal, especially when queerness, femininity, and gay coded language are used as a dig. We talk about what is actually wrong with a feminine straight man, why masculinity only becomes an issue after intimacy and pregnancy, and how publicly emasculating the father of your child while holding that child reinforces broken communication instead of teamwork.

From there, we get into the serious allegations against gospel singer Donnie McClurkin involving sexual assault and grooming claims. I share my honest internal conflict after reading the interview, including how power imbalances exist when wealthy men employ romantic partners, how down low relationships within gospel and religious spaces are far more common than people want to admit, and the fact that Donnie himself has publicly acknowledged past same sex relationships. At the same time, we ask difficult questions about adult consent, complicity, money, access, and whether this is a true crime story or a lover dispute that escalated. I make it clear that I am waiting to see what is actually proven in court.

We also react to Kevin McCall attempting to call out Chris Brown using transphobic language. We question whether this is about truth or attention, why attacking another man’s sexuality is such a tired tactic, and whether this is even something the public truly cares about anymore.

Then we break down Tyra Sanchez suing RuPaul, Michelle Visage, and World of Wonder. We ask if the case is actually strong, whether Tyra is a victim, how blame shifting shows up when accountability is avoided, and how arrested development can play out publicly over time. I also reflect on being a former fan and watching that evolution unfold.

We close the live discussing the arrest of the Venezuelan president and what it means when the United States positions itself as a global authority, who gets to decide legitimacy, and how these power moves impact marginalized people worldwide.
