February 26 2021 - BROOKLYN, New York:
Crowds of people danced and celebrated the Jewish holiday of Purim in the streets of South Williamsburg today.

Around 5:30pm the sirens went off, indicating that sunset is near and the crowds rushed home to observe shabbat.

Purim is celebrated on the 14th and 15th days of Adar, the twelfth month of the Jewish Calendar which usually coincides with March.

Purim is a Jewish holiday which commemorates the saving of the Jewish people from Haman, as recounted in the Book of Esther. Haman was the royal vizier to King Ahasuerus, he planned to kill all Jews in the empire.

Purim is a festive day when it's common to dress up in costume.
