The Tale of the ALPINISTS: Love, Life, and Death Deep in the Mountains with Brette Harrington

Life has a way of throwing unexpected challenges our way, testing our resilience and resolve.

It's during these moments that we truly discover the strength within ourselves to keep moving forward, even in the face of significant trauma and loss.

In this week's podcast episode, I sit down with Brette Harrington as she shares her perspectives on mountain and rock climbing, life's ups and downs, and the courage it takes to continue pursuing what you're passionate about. Her ability to find peace and zen, even in the face of tragedy and sacrifices, is truly awe-inspiring.

Brette Harrington is an American professional rock climber and alpinist based in Lake Tahoe, California, and British Columbia, Canada. She was featured in the 2021 film The Alpinist alongside her late partner, Marc-André Leclerc, who died while climbing from an unexpected avalanche.
She is best known for the first free solo of the 760-meter Chiaro di Luna in Patagonia, for her development of new alpine climbing routes, and as the star of Brette, a Reel Rock Film Tour short film.

Harrington's long-time partner and fellow alpinist Marc-André Leclerc, was confirmed dead after going missing during a climbing expedition near Juneau, Alaska in March 2018. Following Leclerc's death, Harrington devoted two years of her life to working on alpine routes.
Brette spent the first year processing Leclerc's death while she "was deep in the mountains". She dedicated her May 2018 Mount Blane route to Leclerc, writing:

"We have names it Life Compass for a number of reasons. Primarily because my life has taken such a sudden 180-degree turn since the loss of Marc, and alpine climbing has been my guide. I dedicate this climb to my climbing mentor, partner, and love Marc-Andre who would probably solo it the following day if her was here."

Brette's passion for climbing remains unwavering, and she opens up about how she keeps that fire alive within her, even after losing her beloved partner. It's a testament to the strength of the human spirit and the power of resilience.

Let this story inspire you to embrace your own resilience and find solace in pursuing what sets your soul on fire. Remember that no matter what challenges you face, you have the power to overcome them and make a positive impact on the world.

This one is GOOD! Grab a journal and something to write with, and let's embark on this incredible journey with Brette Harrington together.
Oh, and if you're looking for some visual inspiration, make sure to check out "The Alpinist" documentary. It's available for streaming on Netflix, Prime Video, Redbox, Vudu, or Apple TV, and you can watch it using your trusty Roku device. Trust me, it's worth it!
