YAMATAI 邪馬台 - Jack Bazaar (PULSE 2023)

Jack Bazaar is a piece composed by Kris Bergstrom, a founding member of Los Angeles Taiko Institute, in 2011. This piece features groundbreaking choreography and innovative slant-drum multi-tone rhythms.

PULSE 2023 was Yamatai's eleventh annual Spring concert. Held on April 15th, 2023, Yamatai performed in front of over a thousand audience members at Cornell University's famous Bailey Hall.

Yamatai is Cornell University’s one and only taiko group. Founded in 2006, Yamatai is energetically developing its individual style as a relatively young taiko team. Our current repertoire consists of pieces written by Bonten (a professional taiko group in Japan), traditional and community taiko pieces, as well as original compositions by Yamatai members and alumni. Through rigorous study and training, Yamatai seeks to explore musical possibilities of taiko drumming in contemporary adaptations while respecting the origins of the traditional art. We are excited to be a part of the growing international taiko community, and to share our passion for taiko with our audience!
