I am an amateur dog trainer. I had a heck of a time getting my birds to stay put when I planted them. Either they were too dizzy from having been spun like crazy and didn't fly, or they faked me out and flew off as soon as I let go. I saw this technique in about a 10 second segment of a Gin Dog Wars episode. They didn't really teach how, but showed enough for me to figure it out. A but more than just "tuck their head under their wing." This technique works great.
