While one of the main complaints Menagerie gets is its inspiration from Homestuck, it has come to a point where the argument is so far off the mark it makes everyone look silly.

Sooner or later, all the music will be replaced by my new composer, with that in mind, here's a show of just how inspired the cutscenes are!

Now, I never hear complaints about it being inspired from Invader Zim, despite that being blatantly obvious, as a future video will show.

I think Homestuck just has such a notorious fanbase that even fans are like 'no, no this isn't right'. Literally outside of two small parts you can see there are no glaring likenesses from one to the other, I just happen to like the Homestuck music and synced this scene to it. They both take place in entirely different Universes, and yes-- there are subtle similarities, but really. There's not all that much they have in common. A few characters are inspired from Hussie's characters, but even in those scenarios its very visibly different and usually personalities will even be different.

Really, the only big thing me and Hussie are similar with is word count and our infatuation with numbers, and Intelligence was released on 3/14/2011 months before I even knew of Homestuck.

Hussie blatantly outdoes me in both of these fields, which is fine. It's not impossible someone is better than me, and inspiration is more often than not looked on as positive rather than negative, see Invader ZIM's less-than-subtle influence on the story. I mean there's even a character called Tac (Tak) ffs.

I figured I'd just address this misconception people seem to be having, I'm not out to rip off Hussie or use his talent in lieu of mine. It's safe to say I envy what the guy can do, but I ain't here to steal his throne, I ain't here to end Homestuck before he does, I'm here to make the games I want to make, and sometimes just now and then I like to give some props to the big man and give him a subtle nod just to say 'you did make my day just that bit more awesome'.

Just as an addendum to further drive the point home, those who know nothing of Homestuck have praised this scene, those who have read the comic are the only ones who have in small part reviled it just because it's "too much like homestuck", I understand fully that this is the internet, and I'm not trying to curb criticism, I'm merely trying to direct it towards things that might actually matter more than being inspired subtly from a famous web-cartoonist's work.
