Davutoglu visits Diyarbakir

Davutoglu visited a day after the PKK terror group carried out a car bomb attack in Diyarbakir’s Baglar [Baa-lar] district. Seven Turkish policemen died and 27 people, including civilians, were injured. He underlined that the government will never step back in its fight against terrorism-Turkish security forces have killed more than five-thousand PKK terrorists since last July. He said operations will continue until every street and home in Turkey finds peace and security.

Erdogan in the US
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was in the United States to attend the fourth Nuclear Security Summit. During his five-day visit, he met US President Barack Obama to discuss security in Turkey and the situation in the Middle East. Erdogan and US Secretary of State John Kerry also held talks on the recent developments in Syria and operations against the DAESH terror group. On the second day of his visit, Erdogan addressed the leaders of several US companies and invited them to invest in Turkey.

Erdogan opened the Turkish American Cultural and Civilisation mosque complex in the state of Maryland. It’s the biggest of its kind in the US. He said the complex will play a crucial role in dealing with intolerance and prejudice against Muslims.

Turkey builds refugee readmission centres
The construction of two readmission centres for refugees is underway in Dikili and Cesme Turkey has stepped up its efforts to readmit refugees coming from Greece as part of a deal with the European Union. The agreement, which aims to stem the flow of refugees into Europe, began on Monday. Under the deal, Turkey will take back refugees who crossed into Europe illegally from Turkish soil. For each refugee returned, one already settled in Turkey is to be accepted into the EU. In exchange, the EU has promised to provide Turkey with more financial aid, visa-free travel for its citizens, and to restart negotiations on EU membership. Greek authorities have registered more than 5,000 people since March the 20th. Turkish authorities say the first refugee group to arrive in the country includes around 400 people.

Slain prosecutor Selim Kiraz remembered
Thursday marked the first anniversary of Turkish prosecutor Mehmet Selim Kiraz’s death. He was killed in a terror attack carried out by the DHKP-C at Istanbul Palace of Justice. Turkish leaders and Kiraz’s colleagues commemorated him by decorating his office with flowers. The slain prosecutor had been working on the case of a Turkish teenager who died after being injured during the Gezi Park protests three years ago.
