Get the family in the car and visit a place you won't soon forget! The Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge is more than a place ducks and geese winter. It's a wildlife mecca that is home for everything from Bald Eagles to Black Tailed Deer! The SNWR is 10,000 acres of the most beautiful wetland and riparian habitat you will ever see, and you can drive through it and birdwatch hundreds of thousands, if not millions of waterfowl wintering there!
SNWR is only 2.5 hours from the Bay Area, and only 1 hour from Sacramento. It is located just past Maxwell CA, on the old HWY West 99. Take the Norman Princeton Road, #68 exit off HWY 5, and make a left onto HWY 99. Travel one mile to the entrance and just follow the signs. Be sure to visit the Wildlife Center when your there. Afterwards stop in at the Maxwell Inn, Bar & Grill in the town of Maxwell, for a lunch to remember!
All National Refuges are supported by the purchase of The Federal Waterfowl Stamp. Every duck and goose hunter is required to buy and affix this stamp to their hunting license every year. If every bird watcher, birder, hiker, wildlife photographer, made this purchase it would go a long way to help support these amazing refuges.
