Hundreds of mourners have gathered for the funeral of one of the three young girls killed in Southport.

Alice da Silva Aguiar, nine, was fatally stabbed while attending a Taylor Swift-themed dance class on July 29. Bebe King, six, and Elsie Dot Stancombe, seven, also died in the attack. Eight other children and two adults who were injured have all been discharged from hospital to recover at home.

Alice’s parents, Sergio and Alexandra, from Portugal, were joined by family and friends at St Patrick’s Catholic Church in the Merseyside town for the service. A cremation was due to be followed by a gathering for friends and family at Crossens Community Centre.

About 300 members of the public lined Marshside Road as the funeral cortege arrived, alongside about 30 uniformed police officers and members of the fire and ambulance services. Among those who gathered to pay their respects was Serena Kennedy, chief constable of Merseyside police.
