Hey everyone, it’s Leaflit! Today I’m reacting to two major breakdowns on VShojo:

First, Asmongold’s video “VTuber company just died”, highlighting Ironmouse's departure and allegations that the agency withheld over $500,000 in charity funds raised for the Immune Deficiency Foundation. These funds were critical to her personally due to her health condition (CVID), and fans donated expecting that money to go to IDF.

Then, Legal Mindset’s video “The End of VShojo” frames the agency’s options: rebrand, remain insolvent, or declare bankruptcy. It examines whether VShojo will face legal consequences given the massive unpaid dues and the explicit misuse of pledged charity money.

In both cases, I’m going to be critical of VShojo, supportive of Ironmouse and fellow VTubers who stood up, and firm that creator-first rhetoric must align with integrity.

Ironmouse, a founding member of VShojo and one of the platform’s most beloved VTubers, raised over $500,000 for the Immune Deficiency Foundation via a 2024 Twitch subathon. VShojo allegedly did not send the funds to the charity and did not pay Ironmouse her owed share, claiming internal mishandling. She announced her exit on July 21 and plans legal action. 

In the wake of her departure, 12 of the 13 affiliated VTubers—including heavyweights like Kson and Projekt Melody—left VShojo, with many citing personal unpaid dues and emotional betrayal. 

CEO Justin “Gunrun” Ignacio later admitted funds intended for charity were repurposed to keep the company afloat, and that further investment failed to save the agency—leading to its official shutdown announcement. 

Creator-first branding collides with financial failure – VShojo touted creator independence, yet withheld critical donations & wages.

Ironmouse’s integrity vs. corporate betrayal – She risked legal heat to demand accountability and restore lost funds via a community-driven fundraiser—raising nearly $1M. 

Legal fallout is real – Legal experts outline that withholding pledged funds—even when routed through a proxy—is potentially actionable, especially when tied to charitable promises not fulfilled. 

Community solidarity matters – The VTuber exodus and fan outrage reflect a demand for business transparency and ethical stewardship.
