External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Tuesday held a conversation with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, during which the two leaders reviewed key areas of bilateral and strategic cooperation, including trade, critical minerals, nuclear energy, defence, and energy. The discussion comes amid anticipation that India and the US are nearing the first phase of a long-awaited trade deal, which is reportedly in its final stages.  India is currently facing US tariffs of up to 50 per cent, despite ongoing talks that began in February last year, following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Washington.
