Being a Tribal state and part of a country like India, many festivals are celebrated in Chhattisgarh. The multitude of the festivals is a reflection of the culture of the state. These festivals are full of colours and elaborate traditions which radiates the values of togetherness and social harmony. Some of these festivals are-

HARELI- This festival is held in the state of Chhattisgarh during the monsoon month. It is celebrated in the state to seek the blessings of the Almighty for the abundant harvest of crops. During this festival, local farmers worship cows and farm implements. They hang strings of neem leaves on their doors to ward off a variety of diseases.

MADAI- The festival is popularly known as Gonds by an old tribal community. This festival is a means of meeting relatives settled in various villages across the state. It is also a means of purchasing a year-round supply of daily living necessities. The tribal goddess is honored by sacrificing a goat under the tree of the holy village. Narayanpur of Bastar is considered the best place to attend the festival.

BHAGORIA- This auspicious festival is held a week before the 'festival of colors'. The Bhagoria festival originated mainly in the Bhils and dominated the Jhabua district. During this festival, dedicated devotees worship the dancing deity, Bhagorodev.

POLA- This festival follows the festival of greenery. It is celebrated by worshiping bullock carts throughout the state. Children play with the idols of Lord Shiva's vehicle made of clay and are equipped with mud wheels. The major event of this festival is a bull race.

DUSSHERA- The most important festival in the region is a total program of ten days. The festival is believed to have originated in the 15th century by the fourth Kakatiya emperor, Maharaj Purushottam Dev. It calls for the participation of almost all tribal residents of the state. The tribal people celebrate Dussehra as a congregation of Mauli Devi and all her sisters. In Danteshwari temple of Jagdalpur many priests adorn the local deities with vibrant colorful flowers.

CHARTA- It is a harvest festival celebrated by all communities in Chhattisgarh. During this festival ,children roam the village and collect rice from each house. The married women then prepare rice on the banks of a nearby water body. Men and women sing and dance and wait impatiently for a community feast.

NAVKHANA- This festival is celebrated to mark the rice crop. On Navami, the auspicious ceremony begins with the offerings of freshly chopped rice of the season to the family deity.

SURHUL- This festival is dedicated to the worship of Mother Earth, but it has nothing to do with the harvest. The celebration is followed by the blossoming of Sal trees. During this festival no one touches the fields all day and the farmers pray in a small forest within the village.

MATI PUJA- Mati Puja or 'Earth worship' is a festival of significant importance in the state of Chhattisgarh where agriculture is the main occupation of the people. During this festival, the tribal people of Bastar
district worship the earth for the next season for the rich harvest of crops. Religious rites and traditions are also celebrated by him with utmost reverence and dedication.

CHAITRAI- It is an important festival of Gonds in the state of Chhattisgarh. The tribal groups then entertain themselves in the form of dances, folklore and other forms of cultural performances.

GOVARDHAN PUJA- Govardhan Puja is performed in Chhattisgarh state with lots of gaiety and celebration and has its origin according to Hindu mythology. On this festival, the people of Chhattisgarh tie cow dung and then decorate them with flowers after which they worship them.

KORBA MAHOTSAVA- The festival is jointly organized by Korba district administration and other public sector undertakings in Korba district of Chhattisgarh in the month of May.

KAJRI- It is another important festival in the region of Chhattisgarh and falls on the same day which is celebrated on Raksha Bandhan or Shravan Purnima.
