In our discussion today we’re going to consider the somewhat controversial question of “Is AI generated art really art?”, by looking at it from the perspective of five different philosophical theories of the mind: Functionalism, Phenomenology, Dualism, Hylozoism and Pragmatism.

Each of these philosophies of the mind offer a different take on how AI generated artworks and their meaning might be perceived, some pro and some con. I’m not going into the heavy and more complex aspects of these philosophies, just an overview focused on this single area, AI art.
