I run into box score errors sometimes while going through games. They’re usually harmless and have no bearing on the highlighted players so I don’t mention them. However, this one is somewhat significant. Andre was credited with the assist on Wesley Person’s three-pointer at the 3:45 mark in the 3rd quarter. It was marked as his 16th when in fact Jumaine Jones made the pass. This wasn’t just poor judgement like the dish to Lamond Murray at 0:43, it was simply a blatant mistake that I feel compelled to address because of the performance’s history book status and subsequent articles constructed (below). Albeit this, 21 assists with 9 steals is still good for the only such game in league history.

Following his 2000-01 MVP campaign, Allen Iverson started the 2001-02 season incredibly slow. Entering this matchup with Cleveland, The Answer was averaging 26.9 pts on 26.9 fga’s, shooting just 36% from the field and 21% from deep in 43.3 min through 15 games. Iverson typically played well at Gund Arena, December 15th would prove no different as it seemed to kickstart a return to MVP form. His 40 points in this one began a stretch of 20 games lasting until Jan 25, 2002 in which he averaged 33.0 pts on 44-33-80 (%) in 44.1 mpg.
