The total number of airings Nickelodeon shows had in 2025 reveals that the network still has an apprehension towards anything other than SpongeBob SquarePants, as it was the most aired non-Nick Jr. show on the network by a wide margin! You may be thinking SpongeBob hogging the schedule isn't anything new, but I think it highlights how Nickelodeon is actually regressing. Falling back into old habits after it seemed like the 2020s could be a turning point for their brand. It felt like they were embracing SpongeBob, but still championed new ideas while also introducing their legacy toons to a new generation. So how did that fall apart? To figure that out, we need to talk about Nickelodeon’s commitment issues.
