Hello friends welcome to my channel Pathology Gyan, My name is Akash Prajapati, Today's topic is Fungal Culture Test.
What is a fungal culture test?

A fungal culture test is done to detect fungi present in any part of the body. Fungi are microscopic organisms that spread through spores and are highly contagious. Fungal spores are a type of spore that grows rapidly in warm and moist environments. They may be present in shoes, damp rooms or on skin that has accumulated sweat. Some fungal infections are harmless and can be treated easily while others take longer to treat and can spread quickly to other parts of the body.

There are two types of fungal infections:

Superficial fungal infections:
This is very common. They affect the genitals, skin and nails. They are not very serious but can cause symptoms such as itching, rashes and flaking. Superficial fungal infections include athlete's foot, ringworm and vaginal yeast infections.

Systemic fungal infections:
These can be difficult to treat. They can affect the lungs, blood and different parts of the body, causing serious complications. Both types of fungal infections can be diagnosed using a fungal culture test.

Why is a fungal culture test done?

A fungal culture test is recommended for people who show symptoms of a fungal infection or when antibiotics have no effect on the infection. This is because the medicines used to treat bacterial and viral infections cannot stop fungal growth. The early symptoms of a fungal infection are:

• Itchy skin
• Redness
• Scles
• Itching or abnormal discharge from the vaginal area (this only happens when there is a vaginal yeast infection)
• White patches inside the mouth (a symptom of a mouth yeast infection)
• Hard and brittle nails

In severe cases, fungal infections can cause the following symptoms:

• Fever
• Muscle pain
• Headache
• Chills
• Nausea
• Increased heart rate
• A fungal culture test not only detects the fungal infection but also the type of fungus.
