Astrological charts are traditionally cast for people, nations, and corporations—entities with a clear “birth” moment that provides a date, and often a time, for the Ascendant and house structure. Natural events such as volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, or severe weather don’t follow this pattern. Their significance is rooted not in a founding moment but in a geographic point.

Emerging research in mundane astrology suggests that charts cast directly for a longitude–latitude coordinate—rather than for the political entity that governs that land—may reveal dynamics that national or state charts fail to capture. These location-based charts appear to highlight tectonic, atmospheric, and environmental signatures that are otherwise obscured when using a country’s natal chart.

This approach is still experimental, but it opens a promising line of inquiry: treating the land itself as the subject of the chart, rather than the human institutions built upon it.
