Birdsnest coral are small polyp stony coral that come from the genus Seriatopora. The birdnest coral should be one of the first branching coral considered for the new hobbyist. They are hardy and resilient to the challenges that first time hobbyists encounter.

They grow in a bush type pattern. Extending branches in every direction to optimize the available flow and light. As your success with birdnest coral grows, most hobbyists will see tissue loss deep within the colony. The result from lack of flow and light to the inner areas. Not uncommon and no need to panic, your birdnest will continue to grow and expand.

Birdnest branches are brittle. So be aware that the slightest bump will snap a branch. If you break a branch, use this as an opportunity to mount your first sps coral to a frag plug. Securely glue the coral to the plug since birdnest produce very little to no encrustment.

Start your birdnest in moderate lighting with par ranging from 130 - 170. Since different varieties of bird nests may need more or less light, watch carefully for bleaching or color loss.

Place your birdnest in moderate flow to ensure the inner branches receive adequate water flow.

No additional feedings are needed for this coral but be sure to regularly check your calcium and alkalinity as they will uptake these elements to build their fast growing skeleton.
