This video is about the commemoration of the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare's death in Stratford-upon-Avon on Saturday 23rd April 2016.

The fact that Shakespeare died on his 52nd birthday, on 23rd April 1616 (also a Saturday in accordance with the new Gregorian calendar), turned this occasion into a great celebration of his life.

In a day full of action, colour and music, many thousands of spectators lined streets festooned with black and gold, as a solemn funeral procession changed tempo from sombre remembrance to lively celebration. A New Orleans Jazz Band burst into action and streamers rained down on the parade as it moved off in merry vein to Holy Trinity Church where the Bard is buried.

This video covers many of the day's festive events and entertainments, including the opening of Shakespeare's Schoolroom to the public for the first time, a visit to the town by the Prince of Wales, and a spectacular fireworks display over the RSC Theatre.
