Hey everyone! It certainly isn’t often that something takes the right of way over trains… especially cows… However, in the timetable for the Alberta Pacific Subdivision, it is clearly stated that trains “must be prepared to stop when cattle are being herded through crossing”. These cattle crossings, which I’ve never seen anywhere else, are one of a few reasons I wanted to make the trip to Boyle, Alberta to catch the O’Morrow Turn. Around four times a week, this train runs up the Alberta Pacific Subdivision to serve the Alberta Pacific Forest Industries at O’Morrow, Alberta. The 537 brings empty boxcars as well as chemical tanks from Boyle (dropped off by 557), and returns with loads of pulp products for 556 to bring back down to Edmonton. A four man crew and usually one or two SD40s usually does the trick for this regularly scheduled move, stretching around 24 miles each way. Ordered for 0900 and usually back to Boyle between 1300 and 1400, it sure made for an awesome morning chase! It was definitely fun to see where lots of the cars I catch moving on the Coronado Subdivision are heading to and coming from, on this little branch of a branchline! Thanks for watching!
