Cathedral Gorge State Park is one of the four original state parks that Nevada established in 1935. It is located near the town of Panaca, close to Nevada's border with Utah. The park comprises canyons carved into a freshwater lakebed made of bentonitic clay by millions of years of geologic activity. Erosion patterns make the walls of the canyons look like gothic cathedral spires. Hence, its name. It is a photographer's paradise and a hiker's playground.
