In this YouTube Fish Fishburne will take us from start to finish creating some basic streams on the Spirent Test Center (STC) and also helpful suggestions for anyone newer to the STC and what she does and how she uses it.
We will use the CPOC standard base .tcc file as our starter file as this file has some of the Spirent Test Center defaults tweaked for our more common use cases. As an example, the default for Spirent Test Center Cos is 7 and we have the default as 0 in our CPOC base.tcc file.

1) connect 2 STC ports to a Cisco ASR9K,
2) If you are using the CPOC Base tcc file
- delete the two offline ports (1:18)
- save the file with a new name (1:30)
3) Set the ASR9K (Stan) with the proper IP addresses (1:57)
4) Extra: Notice on STC that ports are 1/1 and 1/3... what happened to 1/2? (3:21)
5) On STC prep for adding devices (4:05)
- double check cables are connect to the right ports prior to configuring
- add additional naming to the STC ports
6) Add a device to port 1/1 on STC (7:13)
7) Best Practice: Change the name of the Device from the default to something that makes sense (9:42)
8) Looking at Tags (10:04)
9) Looking at the varying columns for the newly added device (10:19)
10) Quick Tour of the "Capture" ability (10:37-
- tying Wireshark to the STC (10:46)
- start the capture (11:20)
- arp on the device (11:29)
- notice that, by default, "respond to ping" is not enabled (11:57)
- try to ping the STC device from the ASR9K (12:05)
- stop the capture (12:15)
- view the capture (12:28)
- go back to STC and enable "respond to ping" on the device (13:54)
- start capture, ping from ASR9K, see response, stop capture, view capture (13:56-14:25)
11) Best Practice: Keep "respond to pings disabled" unless you need to troubleshoot something quickly (14:26)
12) Ping from the STC (14:36)
13) Add a device to port 1/3 on STC (15:02)
14) Explore "copy down", "fill increment", and "fill custom" (15:34)
15) The "Apply" button (17:42)
16) Best Practice: Set the Columns up so they make sense for you (18:49)
17) ARP-ing (19:25)
18) Creating a Stream between the two devices
- start creating streams (19:51)
- Best Practice: Change the default byte size from 128 to something like 512 or 1024 (21:27)
- add a header (22:26)
- Port Based or Rate Based (22:39)
- Finish Stream, Save File, Name the Streamblocks something meaningful, playing with Tags again, click Apply, ARP (23:01-24:43)
