He said of the song:
"The 'Andrea Gail' spent time in Bay Bulls, Newfoundland, my hometown, in the late 80's and early 90's. I was inspired to write this song after reading the book 'The Perfect Storm' by Sebastion Junger".

Another song about the Andrea Gail was recorded in 2007 by Tom Maynard and was titled "Silence Of The Sea".
