Japan has many legends of ghosts and evil spirits and you might have enjoyed stories of them in anime and video games before. However, among them there are the 三大怨霊 Sandai-onryo, the three great vengeful spirits, which were all originally actual people who lived tragic lives and are now worshiped as powerful gods.

So today, I will first explain what 怨霊 onryo are in the first place. Then I will introduce the stories of the 三大怨霊 Sandai-onryo: 菅原道真 Sugawara no Michizané, 平将門 Taira no Masakado, and 崇徳天皇 Sutoku Emperor.

By watching this video, not only will you be able to deepen your understanding towards Japanese history, you can enjoy the stories of demons or ghosts that appear in anime and manga like 呪術廻戦 Jujutsu-Kaisen. I will also be introducing the places that are related to the three, so that you can learn more about them when you visit Japan.
