Q1 What is plasma?
Plasma is the clear, straw-colored liquid portion of blood that remains after red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets and other cellular components are removed.

Q2 How is plasma separated?
It is achieved through an Apheresis machine in which the blood of a person is passed through this machine, which separates out plasma from the blood and returns the remainder to the circulation. This remainder is circulated back to the patient.

Q3 Eligibility of Whole blood donation Vs plasma donation

Whole blood donation
1) Age- 18-65yrs
2) Weight - greater than 45kg
3) Haemoglobin - greater than 12.5 g/dl

Plasma donation
1) Recovered from COVID -19 & tested negative twice in 28 days after recovery
2) Age 18-50yrs
3) Weight - greater than 50kg
4) Haemoglobin - greater than 12.5 g/dl
5) Total protein - greater than 6 g/dL
6) IgG levels - 1:640
7) Multipara Females ( having borne many offspring’s are not allowed)
8) Donors having Diabetes, Hypertension, and other metabolic disorders are also not allowed.
