On October 30, Santa Clara University hosted the Red Mass, an 800-year-old tradition that gathers Bay Area legal professionals to seek the Holy Spirit's guidance in the pursuit of justice. Held during Jesuit Heritage Week, this year's Mass centered on the theme "Faith That Does Justice."

Auxiliary Bishop-elect Andres C. Ligot, a canon lawyer, presided over the celebration. Father Matthew Carnes, S.J., delivered a homily on reconciliation, mercy, and love—reminding attendees that justice means drawing people together, not dividing them.

Judge Patricia M. Lucas received the 2025 Saint Thomas More Award, honoring her steadfast commitment to service and integrity in the legal profession.

The Red Mass reminds lawyers, judges, and legal professionals that their work is grounded in faith and guided by conscience—and that the law of Christ is love.
