Sappho & Simeon | Poet Meets Artist

Описание к видео Sappho & Simeon | Poet Meets Artist

One of the most iconic portrayals of the ancient poet Sappho was created in 1864 by gay artist Simeon Solomon. Today, we explore this work and the how the stories of this poet and artist became entwined forever.

*Correction:* I didn't mean to say "Renaissance fresco." The fresco shown is from Pompeii circa 50-79 AD. Note that it is unconfirmed whether the woman depicted is intended to be Sappho, but today it is commonly believed to be so.
